March Wrap Up – The Stars We Steal!

March Wrap Up and Review

Ok so hands up if you feel you’ve been personally victimised by March? *hells yes we do*

Honestly, March has just been soooo draining! We are debating becoming bears and hibernating for the foreseeable, until this shit-storm blows over!

Can we just stop and say, we hope you are all staying safe and healthy in this horrifying time – If you are a key worker, we wholeheartedly thank you for your service. Both of us are in the key worker category and we march in all guns blazing every day and just try to help where we can.

Stay Strong, Stay Safe, Stay Smiling xx

Right then! Doom and Gloom aside – We have finished our first Book Club Readalong and had a whale of a time!

Review: The Stars We Steal

The Stars We Steal was this month’s pick for our ya fantasy/sci-fi book club and blog, @bookstaholics.anonymous. It’s a retelling of Jane Austen’s Persuasion and set in space during an engagement season. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

We have to say – we love a good retelling and this one was extra special for Kayleigh as it was an amalgamation of a favourite classic of hers brought to life in a new genre. It was such a cute, fun book which has serious The Bachelor and The Selection vibes! It’s a perfect choice for anyone new to the sci-fi genre or anyone just looking for an escape from the world for a few hours.

One of our favourite things was the descriptions of the parties and dresses as they just sounded absolutely gorgeous and were so vividly captured that you felt like you were there experiencing it in real life! If anything we would have loved more – we obsess over the beautiful gowns and parties in any book! Masquerade party anyone???

Inside note: Alexa Donne told us that she has a pinterest board for this book and we love it! Go check it out here. IT IS AMAZING!!!

The main characters, Leo and Elliott, had us feeling different vibes. We loved Leo – she is a headstrong and smart female, loyal to a T and you do very quickly learn to love her.

Elliott on the other hand had Kayleigh and Tish in two separate corners: Kayleigh felt that Elliott was a frustrating character but a loveable book bf none the less! Whereas Tish thought Elliot was an ass and even when the book had ended, she still didn’t like his character!

Kayleigh has read Persuasion whereas Tish has not so we think this plays a big part in the opinions here 🤷🏻‍♀️

We were, however, all for the LGBTQ+ representation (Evgenia was a favourite for Tish) and we felt like it was unique but still faithful to Jane Austen where it mattered. It’s so important, especially in ya, to have this community represented! We firmly believe that you find yourself in books and seeing kick-ass characters who identify as you do can be such an affirming and joyful experience!

It was absolutely amazing to have the author join our book club group on Sunday to chat to us and answer some questions! We’ll be posting the full Q&A on here soon so keep your eyes open for some more inside gossip!

What do you think? Does it sound like something you would like to read? Do you agree with our thoughts?

Lots of Love,

Kayleigh and Tish xx
